Soon after she moves to Spencer, Maryland, multi-millionaire Katrina Singleton learns that life in an exclusive community is not all good. For some unknown reason, a strange man calling himself "Pay Back" begins terrorizing her. When Katrina is found strangled, all evidence points to her terrorist.
Three months later the file on her murder is still open with only vague speculations from the local police department when Mac Faraday, sole heir to his unknown birth mother's home and fortune, moves into the estate next door. Little does he know as he drives up to Spencer Manor that he is driving into a closed gate community that is hiding more suspicious deaths than his DC workload as a homicide detective. With the help of his late mother's journal, this retired cop puts all his detective skills to work to pick up where the local investigators have left off.
It Murder My Son A Mac Faraday Mystery Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Lauren Carr Janean Jorgensen Books in Motion Books
Although 'It's Murder, My Son' wasn't a book that kept me glued to its pages, I did manage to finish it and found some things to like about it. I thought that Mac, Archie and David especially were likeable and reasonably intelligent. The writing style is quite readable and the editing is far superior to that I've seen in other books in the price range I'm shopping in. The reading of it did require some effort on my part, however. At about the 16% mark I had become so totally confused as to who was who and which had done what to whom that I had to start over and list the characters and their relationships as I encountered them. This provided a little clarity, temporarily; the number of deaths continued to rise, unfortunately, and in the end it wasn't a complex plot but a confusing one, and I couldn'd suspend my disbelief quite enough to make it work. This having been said, though, I was so pleased to find a Kindle book with so few grammatical errors that I have embarked upon the second book of the Mac Faraday series in hopes of finding a less labyrinthine and coincidence-laden plot.Product details

It Murder My Son A Mac Faraday Mystery Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Lauren Carr Janean Jorgensen Books in Motion Books Reviews
Well, Ms. Carr obviously doesn't need another 5-star review for this wonderful mystery but I just can't help myself. Great writing, story and characters that keep you running along to see where she'll take you next. Yes, you can't help falling for Mac but Archie is a gem, too, and so is David... I like intelligent characters with integrity! Excellent storytelling full of twists and turns. I didn't want to put it down -- and who doesn't love a rags-to-riches tale that includes validation and vindication. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!!
After discovering that the famed mystery writer Robin Spencer was his mother, Mac Faraday was shocked to also learn of her death. But the inheriting of her millions which included Spencer Manor and Spencer Inn in the town of Spencer meant Mac would no longer be a penniless ex-homicide detective struggling to survive the results of a messy divorce.
Arriving in town to take up his inheritance, he found that there had been a murder near his new home – Katrina Singleton, wealthy and single, had been brutally killed three months previously and her death had not been solved. As Mac found himself drawn into the mysteries in Spencer, he discovered there were more twists and secrets than he’d come across in a long time. And when more bodies turned up and the suspects multiplied, Mac knew he had to dig deeply to find answers. His late mother’s journal proved to be a godsend as his detective skills were put to the test…
With the help of Archie, who was Robin’s assistant and Gnarly, the ex-military German Shepherd along with David who was a local detective, Mac realized the secrets and lies that they were uncovering were leading toward a killer who would do anything to keep his or her identity hidden. Would they find the killer before it was too late?
I quite enjoyed this light mystery featuring ex-detective Mac Faraday. There were a lot of characters to keep up with, but after the first few chapters I had no trouble. The pace was fast and the plot interesting - my favourite character would have to be Gnarly! It’s Murder My Son is the first in the Mac Faraday mystery series and I have no hesitation in recommending it.
I have now met Mac Faraday, he has found that he is the illegitimate son of a very successful mystery writer and he is her sole heir. He has inherited millions, a mansion, a hotel and who knows what else. Before he became a wealthy playboy, he was a policeman, and a very good one.
He moves into the mansion and meets Archie. Archie is a lovely woman who was the editor for his mother, Robin. She lives in a guest house on the grounds and generally educates him on the neighbors and the neighborhood. Mac has moved into an enclave of other millionaires. They all live around a scenic lake that is exclusive to the rich and sometimes famous.
And he meets Gnarly. Gnarly is the kind of dog we all would love, but would be unable to manage. He is a German Shepherd who was dishonorably discharged from the military for thinking outside the box. Gnarly gets bored easily and when he does he invents things to do.
The late author, purchased Gnarly after he nearly lost his life trying to protect a neighbor who was murdered. Gnarly has an interesting past and a deep hunger for any food that any human being is eating.
The book is the first in a series, and I am so looking forward to reading more in this series. In this book, there are many establishing themes, who is who and how they fit into life among the wealthy.
There are murders, there are thefts, there is a good guy policeman who happens to be Mac's half brother. There is another policeman who happens to be a jerk. There is a couple who happen to be law suit junkies. They evidently have made a very good living by suing people who are wealthy and successful. There is another mystery writer who is married to a glamorous model.
There are several mysteries in the book, enough to keep the reader interested. It is a fun read, well plotted, with characters who are interesting and at times, reminders of humans we may have known. The only thing I would say, at times the numerous characters required me to go back and be reminded who someone was. I figure that will change in the next book.
I hope when you read this book, you enjoy it as much as I have. This author is new to me, and I look forward to reading more by her.
